Fleas and Ticks: Heat Means Red Alert for Dogs and Cats

If you care about your dog's health, you should buy a GPS for dogs with built-in monitor activity, like Kippy. With increasingly hot and humid seasons, fleas and ticks have unfortunately become unwanted guests for most of our pets. It doesn’t matter if your dog is mostly in the house or in the garden, attending dogs' areas or beauty shows, or just walking around the metropolitan streets; the chance to get in touch with these dull - and dangerous - outdoor parasites is getting more and more concrete.

Recent studies have shown that animal infestations of these parasites have increased exponentially. And unfortunately they no longer take into account the seasons. In fact, we can find fleas and ticks on our pets even in autumn or winter, as a result of the weather getting hotter. Not only that, the infestations of these animals are also found in houses themselves. And once the parasites have taken possession of the domestic walls, eliminating them permanently becomes very difficult.

For those who do not want to use chemical pesticides, however, there are good "natural solutions". Do not forget a good homemade remedy to keep these parasites away: garlic, which gives dog skin a particular smell that fleas and ticks hate. There are garlic products on the market, that can be added as supplement to the daily food with excellent results. If you also want to keep an eye on how many calories you dog burns, monitor his health with a GPS for dogs.

Another great home-made repeller can be prepared using any citrus you have, such as orange, lemon, mandarin or grapefruit (the first two are the most recommended). Boil half a liter of water and add two sliced citrus fruit. Once boiled, let go for a minute and then lower the flame to the minimum, continuing to boil it for one hour (be careful not letting evaporate all the water). Let it cool and pour into a diffuser. Sprinkle it on the dog's mantle, paying attention not to let it go into the eyes. With this preparation you can also disinfect the house, especially floors and corners.

For ticks, then one of the most effective natural remedies is camomile. Prepare an infusion with some flowers of this plant (or use a ready-made sachet), let it become lukewarm, soak up some cotton and then apply it to the dog's skin, especially on the critical areas. After this treatment the parasites will begin to "escape" from the host animal. Afterwards, disinfect the house carefully, insisting on the corners of doors and walls, sofas and armchairs, all areas where these insects are nested more than willingly. In any case, there are also specific pesticides that can be used throughout the year on both domestic animals and the home environment. And their action is safe even in the presence of children and puppies. Want to know how much does your dog exercise? You can buy a Kippy Vita S, a GPS for dogs with an integrated activity monitor.
